The SPE Mining University of Leoben Student Chapter has been awarded the Gold Standard designation for 2016 by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
The Mining University of Leoben Student Chapter has earned the Gold Standard, in recognition of its exceptional programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development and innovation.
Maybe only little of you might remember my promise to you and our members when I was elected president some time ago – firstly that we will increase our efforts to recruit more members, secondly to go on a fieldtrip and use this travel activities to promote our SCOPE Congress in October between 10th and 13th 2016 and lastly to get minimal the SPE GOLD Standard but mainly the Outstanding Chapter Award.
Well I’m very happy that we were awarded the 2016 Student Chapter Gold Standard and I want to use this format to thank all of you for your effort, your skills and especially your free time you spent working for the Student Chapter Leoben to make this happen. Sadly sometimes there is no immediate thank you for all the effort you did during the last year or only by them who directly profited from it. So let me say one more time THANKS to all of you who offered their help, their enthusiasm and time to make this happen.
The UEFA EURO 2016 just showed us recently that there is not only the “one person” who can win the championship – it’s always a team effort. Sometimes it even happens that the captain is not on the field with the players, but somewhere on the sideline supporting the team.
I would like to wish you all a perfect summer break, having fun and undergo some challenging internships somewhere in the petroleum world as well just some nice time to relax with family and friends. The SPE Student Chapter Team will need you back in best shape after the summer break as we will start with our own big challenge – our first Student Congress SCOPE in October between 10th and 13th 2016 and the 60 years celebration of our Department Petroleum Engineering (dpe) in Leoben.

The Award Committee utilises a number of criteria which are, among other things, based on activities such as educational/technical meetings (such as fieldtrips, guest speakers, student paper contests), the recruitment of new members or activities that enhanced the image of the petroleum industry, the engineering department or the student chapter. This gold designation recognises that the SPE Mining University of Leoben Chapter has accomplished an admirable level of activity.
