PE Technology Outside of the Box

We are familiar with our equipment, and know how to use it to drill for oil and gas. It's also quite commonly known that the same technology is used for geothermal wells. But drilling for humans is quite unusual.

On January 18, the Montanuniversitaet Leoben SPE Student Chapter had the honor of welcoming Mr. Leopold Abraham at the HS DPE. He spoke to 16 students of geosciences, petroleum and mining engineering about how he was one of the leading persons in the rescue after mining tragedy of Lassing, Styria.

Experts from OMV will visit Montanuniversitaet Leoben for an entire week to teach about seismic data processing for simulation.

February 2017 will be a good time to learn about reservoir modeling.

The first excursion in 2016 will take us to the OMV refinery in Wien-Schwechat and further to a water treatment plant of OMV near Gänserndorf.

„One cannot plan for the unexpected“. This famous quote by the scientist Aaron Klug was the motto of the first excursion in the year 2016. Originally it was planned to visit the OMV refinery in Schwechat and afterwards a water treatment plant in Schönkirchen. Nevertheless sometimes things turn out differently…
